体外受精による受精卵を子宮に戻す前にすべての染色体を調べ、異常を見つけることができる新型の着床前診断が、神戸市の産婦人科医院で不妊患者を対象に行われ、これまでに１６人が出産したことがわかった。
着床前診断は、異常の見つかった受精卵を除くため、命の選別につながるとの指摘もある。日本産科婦人科学会は会告（指針）で、重い遺伝病の患者などを除いて認めておらず、今後、議論を呼びそうだ。
この医院は、不妊治療を専門に行う「大谷レディスクリニック」（大谷徹郎院長）。
従来の着床前診断では、２３対（４６本）ある染色体の一部しか調べられなかったが、新型の「比較ゲノムハイブリダイゼーション（ＣＧＨ）法」だと、すべての染色体を調べられる。精度も従来より高く、ほぼ確実に異常を見つけられる。
大谷院長によると、２０１１年２月から１２年５月にかけ、９７組の夫婦に「新型」を１回ずつ実施した。女性の年齢は２８～４５歳（平均３９・１歳）。いずれも受精卵の染色体異常で着床しなかったり、流産を繰り返したりした経験があり、中には過去に６回流産した女性もいた。
９７組の中で、受精卵が順調に育ち、子宮に移植できたのは５３組。そのうち３９人が妊娠し、１６人が出産。３人は流産したものの、２０人が妊娠中だ。
受精卵を子宮に移植できた人の妊娠率は７４％で、通常の体外受精の妊娠率（３９歳の平均で２５％）と比べると、３倍近く高かった。
